Photography & Birding

FLORA AND FAUNA

We were some of the first landowners to join in the efforts of nature tourism in Texas, and we proudly take the responsibility of being “stewards of the land” very seriously, protecting and celebrating wildlife and Mother Nature in all we do.

Located along the Central Texas Coastal Birding Trail, our very diversified habitat attracts a wide assortment of birds, from those that are native to this area, to a array of migratory birds. For a real treat join us during the winter months to witness the influx of waterfowl that call our numerous wetlands their winter “home”. Sitting on the lawn or your private porch, you are likely to spot numerous types of ducks, geese, roseate spoonbills, pelicans, wood-storks, and sand hill cranes by the hundreds, coming and going from the safety of the roost below our headquarters. This year, we even had a stray whooping crane that joined up with the sand hill cranes. This is a real rarity, and brought on quite a stir; so we carefully guarded him, in hopes of him returning next year to join us. (Wherever you are, “Whopper”, your winter home awaits your arrival!).

If photography is your interest, viewing is easy, with many paths and secluded hideaways that are great vantage points for photography. Having participated numerous times in the Coastal Bend Land Trust Photo Contest, many groups have joined us and learned the ease with which our guests can enjoy the abundance of wildlife and nature species that our ranch boasts.
